South Coast Hospice Celebrates
Twenty-plus Years
It's Just the Beginning. . .
The South Coast Hospice Board of Directors, in celebration of 20 years of service
to Coos County patients and families, wishes to invite you to help us help others.
Over 20 years ago, South Coast Hospice opened its doors above the Lemon Tree
Bakery in a donated space. Starting with an all-volunteer team, Hospice thrived
because of community support and referrals. In July 1994, after much soul searching,
South Coast Hospice made the decision to become Medicare certified.
This gave South Coast Hospice the ability to bill Medicare, Medicaid and Private
Insurances for Hospice services. This step provided much more for patients and families
than South Coast Hospice could provide as a "mostly" volunteer team. Medications
related to the Hospice diagnosis, Supplies, and Equipment, and 24 hour-7 day
Nursing and Social Services were billable. This quantum leap helped us stay ahead of
our communities' needs. We are still growing and working hard to stay ahead of those
needs. We have listened to you in building our Hospice program. We have expanded way
outside-the-standard-hospice-box. We were honored to receive the fifth annual
"Governor's Community Partnership Award".
We continued to have a host of volunteers within our community who remain
so very faithful, insuring and providing Hospice support.
Visit our ABOUT HOSPICE site on the main MENU
to see a listing of some of the ways we serve your community.
Here are some ways you can Help Hospice Help Others
- 20-plus years is a long time and we are proud that we have been able to support Coos County residents during the past twenty years. Your support is always needed. Please consider a one-time donation of $20, $200, $2,000.00, or any amount you would like. You can choose where you would like this money to go - the new endowment fund, operating expenses, building expenses or other.
- ENDOWMENT FUND- In 2004, the South Coast Hospice Board of directors established an Endowment Fund. In an attempt to assure that, the future of South Coast Hospice is secure. Contributions are held permanently and are invested to provide regular, predictable income for the program. Individuals can help build this endowment with gifts of cash, property, real estate (which allows a donor to receive a tax deduction and avoid capital gains tax...see your financial advisor) life insurance policies, etc. Twenty years was just the beginning and the board, with your help, hopes to leave a legacy of financial security for years to come. Please call us, we will be happy to answer your questions.
- RAY of HOPE - You can be a beacon on the wall at the Bereavement and Education Center. With a $500 donation, we will have your name or company name laser engraved on a Myrtlewood RAY of HOPE. Your name will emanate from the lighthouse on our South Coast Hospice logo, shining the way for palliative care patients and those grieving who have found our Center and Care Team a source of comfort and healing.
- VOLUNTEER! Have you ever thought you might like to help South Coast Hospice help others? There are so many opportunities for volunteer work with South Coast Hospice. We know we can find the perfect match for you. We have classes to help you learn more about the agency and the work that might be available for you. There are countless opportunities to serve. Call us at 269-2986 and we'll match your skills, talents, and time to a meaningful project.
- Thrift Store and Distribution Center - After many successful annual garage sales, the Board elected in 1996 to open a thrift store in order to make that money for patient/family care flowing in on a permanent basis. Today, you can shop at our main store at 155 Meade Street in North Bend and donate your gently used items. We appreciate your patronage both as a donor of gently used items and as a shopper. If you'd like to be part of the team that makes it all happen, we'd welcome your help. For more information on volunteering at either operation, call 269-9611 or 269-3988.
- Dedicate a Brick in the Remembrance Walkway. Honor those you love by giving this gift that lasts forever. These bricks are beautifully engraved with names of loves ones, inspirational messages, and business names in support of South Coast Hospice. You can have the brick or bricks placed on the South Coast Hospice campus in the courtyard at the Bereavement Center or the path in our tranquil park. Large bricks are $95, small for $45.
- Cars for Caring - Got a car, truck, camper, or boat that's just taking up space? Don't want the expense of insuring it? Doing you no good sitting there, is it? Why not do yourself a favor and help others at the same time? If it runs, turn it into a tax deductible donation to South Coast Hospices' "CARS for CARING"
If you'd like to speak with someone about a special way you'd like to support the mission
of South Coast Hospice, please let us know. We'd be most happy to talk with you
about your wishes to help us help others.
