The Most Precious Gift is. . YOU

  Never underestimate the power

of a touch, a smile, a kind word,

an honest compliment, or the

smallest act of caring, all of which

have the power to turn a life around.

- Leo Buscaglia

It takes a special kind of person to care for

those    facing the end of their   lives. . . . . .

  •     A person who is willing to become familiar once again with the depth it takes to simply be present with another human being.
  •       Someone who is comfortable sharing the simplicity of Silence.
  •     Someone who accepts patients and their families as they are.
  •     A person who comes with an open heart and mind as they focus on serving others.
  •     Someone who is accepting of diverse lifestyles and beliefs of those they support.
  •     ATTENTION to the patient
  •     ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of individuality
  •     AFFECTION
  •     ACCEPTANCE where they are.

Training to become a patient/family care hospice volunteer corresponds with the terms at Southwestern Oregon Community College.   Training is offered each spring and fall at the South Coast Hospice Community Bereavement and Education Center.  The training is 11 weeks long, and is FREE unless taken for college credit.

2007 Classes begin April 3 in Coos Bay
